Patch Management - OS Version Updates

OS Version Updates

NU ITS provides support for Operating Systems (OS) that are actively maintained by the vendor. Typically, a vendor supports the current OS and the previous two releases. Whenever possible, NU ITS recommends running the latest vendor supported OS available. ITS provides full support for Microsoft Windows and Apple operating systems.

When a vendor releases a new OS version, that version will be reviewed and tested by NU ITS for up to 90 days following public availability. During this time, ITS will check for OS stability and compatibility with essential University IT systems and commonly used software. Once full support and compatibility have been validated by NU ITS, the OS version is made available for production use in the University. Faculty, Staff, and Students can then install new OS versions using Self Service (iOS, iPadOS, macOS) or Software Center (Windows).

Windows feature releases occur annually, generally in the second half of the year. Apple feature releases occur annually, generally in September or October.
